Mountain Musings

Winter transitions on the Great Sacandaga Lake

Mountain Musing

Beyond infrastructure and emergency readiness, winter resilience is also about human connection. Even in the coldest months, our community makes space for gathering and creativity. We enjoyed winter carnivals, art exhibits, dinner dates, game nights with friends, and snowy hikes that reminded us how beautiful this season can be.

I also found new ways to stay engaged locally. A book club at our library keeps me connected to a range of perspectives and ideas, while a monthly crafting group supports my ongoing journey in the creative arts. I’ve been building stock for the website and for summer events across the Adirondacks. These small but meaningful routines add warmth to the season and strengthen our sense of belonging.

Now, as the seasons begin to turn, our mountain hamlet looks ahead with relief and quiet optimism. After months of cold, silence, and snow, we’re ready to welcome the first green shoots of grass and the gentle bloom of spring flowers, a reminder that renewal always follows endurance.
