Spring 2026
Spring on the Upper Hudson River
Mountain Musings
One of the first signs we are transitioning from winter to spring begins in March, when the warmer daytime temperatures and freezing nights generate sap flow in the sugar maple trees. You can see the long blue lines running between the maple trees, bringing the sap from the trees to the processing area. The area comes alive with Maple Weekends beginning in late March extending into April. Each sugar farm offers unique opportunities, all of which are family friendly, to tour of the sugar shacks, sampling of pancakes, and other fun activities. We also see the opening of local vendor markets offering delectables from local farms; everything from honey, fruit pies (my favorite is strawberry rhubarb), and plenty of vegetables. It’s a tantalizing time of year and prepares us for the full bounty of summer.
I can’t believe we are approaching Memorial Day weekend tomorrow! This is always a busy season in the surrounding areas of Lake George, Saratoga Springs, and Glens Falls. I enjoy getting out into the communities to meet people and learn about the different towns that make up the Adirondack Park. We are headed to Owl Pen Books in Greenwich, NY to peruse the shelves, enjoy the lovely property, and buy some new records. Bob and I plan to visit Saranac Lake and tour some of the Great Camps of the Adirondacks. We will be taking plenty of photos to share and to serve as templates for new stitching designs!
So, what’s going on in the shop? I’ve been working diligently to build stock items for several summer vendor markets beginning in July and extending through August. I’ve been working on patches, bags, hostess gifts, pants, dresses, you name it so be sure to stay tuned for website updates.
Thanks for visiting our site and coming along with us on our adventures. We love the Adirondacks and encourage your visit to this lovely ‘peace’ of paradise.
