Autumn 2026

I’m writing to you on a beautiful autumn day, with a sky that is robin egg blue and trees with leaves the color of gold, rust and crimson. Our driveway is covered in a canopy of bright yellow that seems to light the way to our cozy home. I love the way autumn reconnects me with memories of childhood hayrides, pumpkin carving, and preparing for the best night of the year, Halloween! I admit I am a horror film aficionado and enjoy films, books, folklore, and the customs of the season.

Bob and I enjoyed a few trips this season which served to extend our leaf-peeping opportunities. We visited Simon Pearce in Quechee, VT, a few places in Ausable, NY, and we rode the Revolution Rail in North Creek, NY.

I’ve also remained busy as a Board Trustee at our community library, and it’s been fun meeting people across the school district. I did not grow up in a mountain community, so I am learning the ways libraries support families during the tough winter months. Whether it is food, clothing, warm shelter during the day, or activities our libraries are an important hub of resources. Life up here reminds me of the book, The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes. Although it’s historical fiction, you may just get curious about the important work of Eleanor Roosevelt to get books in the hands of mountain folk. And of course, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the fun of our monthly book club, which is my favorite winter activity besides stitching.

This season brought us some sadness too as my mother passed away earlier in October. Mom was a kind and beautiful soul, and her life was filled with many friends and family who reminded me I am not alone. As you can guess, I needed to take a brief hiatus from the shop to devote my full attention to mom. I am grateful for the life we shared and the past few months we had together. What a gift it was to know her and be loved by her. We light a candle of remembrance in our home and will keep it lit during the cold winter months ahead.

Thanks for visiting our site and coming along with us on our adventures and life journey. We love the Adirondacks and encourage your visit to this lovely ‘peace’ of paradise.

Until we meet again,

Chris & Bob, Mom & Pop
